She is embarrassed by his bold, uncultured manner. When the wind takes her hat one afternoon, Gabriel searches for it and returns it to her. The woman’s beauty intrigues him, and Gabriel finds himself watching her, unobserved, over the next few weeks. One day he sees a beautiful woman in a wagon filled with boxes.
